One of Bill and Ted's most famous mottos was 'be excellent to each other.'

And A-list actor Keanu Reeves lived up to his breakthrough character's wishes when he gave up his seat for a woman on the subway.

The hunky Canadian star was filmed sitting on the New York subway when he suddenly notices a lady is being forced to stand.

And the chivalrous Matrix star then offers her his seat, making way so she can rest her heavy legs.

In the YouTube video Keanu Reeves: Gentleman or Douche, his good deed is recorded by a fan on the train, and it has since became an internet hit.

And fans have piled on the praise to the Buddhist actor, who lived up to his religion's selfless nature by making the generous act.

One said: 'It was a very nice and considerate thing for him to do, and he didn't have to do it.'

Excellent! Bill and Ted would have doubtlessly approved of Keanu's most triumphant gesture

Keanu has been noted in the past for his selfless nature.

In 2003 he gave away £50 million of his earnings from the Matrix sequels.

He handed over the money the costume and special effects teams of the hit science fiction franchise.

When asked about his generous act the actor said 'Money is the last thing I think about.

'I could live on what I have already made for the next few centuries.'
