BEST OF 2011
Another year has come and gone, and boy was it a busy one! We bought a house, renovated it, adopted a dog and welcomed a niece! Although I wasn't able to blog as much as I wanted to this year, there are so many chic things I discovered and loved in 2011!
Here is TRES CHIC's best of the year- Enjoy!
...And Happy New Year!
Best Beauty
Dip-Dyed Hair:
Be it pink, purple or blonde, dying just the ends of the hair was a hot trend for 2011. Rockers to average gals wore the look, but it takes a fierceness to pull off this funky style! Get a how-to at Ellegirl.com
Flock of Feathers:
A more subtle hair trend for 2011- feather extensions. Seen all over the red carpet and even in suburbia, the look is a little more boho, but so doable. Check out Hairfeather.com
Fragrance:
Something Old...
By no means is Angel perfume by Thierry Mugler a new fragrance, in fact it was launched in 1992, but I was introduced to this amazing scent this year and now I cannot get enough!
Said to be the first non-floral women's fragrance, Angel is a sumptuous blend of vanilla, honey, coffee, chocolate and patchouli.
The star-shaped bottles are so chic, and are refillable! You don't need much of this beautiful fragrance, a little goes a long way!
Something New...
I am also loving Coach Poppy, Dolce & Gabbana Rose The One, and Versace Bright Crystal.
Best in Hollywood
Breakout Star:
Emma Stone had one hell of a year! From her starring role in The Help, to her sexy romp with Ryan Rosling (see below) in Crazy, Stupid, Love, to her hilarious hosting gig on SNL, Stone solidified her spot in Hollywood in 2011.
But Stone was just as fun to watch off screen as she rocked the red carpet and posed for various fashion mag covers.
The standouts: 2011 Golden Globes, Stone in a peach Calvin Klein dress.
And Stone on the cover of Vanity Fair for August 2011.
New Heartthrob:
Bradley Cooper who?
People Magazine got it SO wrong! Ryan Gosling, star of 2011's Crazy, Stupid, Love; Drive; and Ides of March IS the sexiest man alive, period.
The camera loves Ryan and so do the ladies. But this guy can act! Catch him and Emma Stone in 2012's Gangster Squad (below).
Best New T.V.
Show:
Being broke was never so much fun! One of the standout new shows from Fall 2011 is the CBS comedy 2 Broke Girls. Created by Sex and The City's Michael Patrick King, and comedian Whitney Cummings (whose own show Whitney is awful!), 2 Broke Girls is a mix of sarcastic humor and hilarious one liners.
Han: Max, why did you kick out the hipsters?
Max: Because I cannot be in the background of another Instagram photo!
Its star Kat Dennings, as the broke waitress Max, is the girl you both love and fear. While Beth Behrs as the ex-rich girl Caroline, is the girl you want to be and also slap.
Haven't seen it? Hop on over to Hulu NOW!
Cast:
New Girl on Fox is another gift from the comedy Gods! Goofy, lovable Zooey Deschanel plays Jess (with her own theme song!) who is also goofy and lovable. Sure Jess is just Zooey 2.0, but it's the interaction with her band of guy roommates that makes for good television. Community bathroom anyone?
Out of the three guy roommates, my fav is the annoyingly funny Schmidt played by Max Greenfield. He is a d-bag (and pays the douche jar because of said behavior), but his cardigan-wearing, conditioner-loving, germaphobic ways are hilarious!
Schmidt: Winston, you better watch it, man, because I will take you down. I had figure skating lessons until I was 13, and then my mom sobered up and realized I was a boy. Let's do this!
Catch up with this merry band of misfits on Hulu.
Best Music
Singer/Songwriter:
Adele's sophomore album 21 propelled the UK soul singer into international stardom in 2011. So many of the album's tracks are unbelievably moving and solid, from Rolling in the Deep and Rumor Has It, to Someone Like You and Set Fire To The Rain.
With her multiple Grammy noms, Adele is likely to clean up in a majority of the top categories she is up for: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance. See it live February 12, 2012 at 8pm on CBS.
"This album is that rarest pop commodity: timeless," said Entertainment Weekly of 21 and gave it an "A-." ET recently ranked it as one of the Top 10 albums of 2011:
"...the 23-year-old songstress was the great uniter of 2011. She was beloved as much by wonky record-collectors as she was by your mom, who probably heard her music at Starbucks and felt emotions that you don't want to know about."
Adele's 21 sold 13 million copies internationally.
Best Fashion Trends
Colored denim:
The only pot of gold at the end of this rainbow is with the jean companies! A colored denim craze spread in 2011 as celebs and everyday gals injected bright colors into their wardrobes. Offset with neutrals (blacks, grays, whites) these electric denim hues are pretty chic!
Houndstooth
The classic houndstooth pattern had a re-birth in 2011, as everything from heels to handbags were donned with the print. As a alum of The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) I loved seeing the print having a comeback. Looks like fashion has Bear Bryant fever!
Missoni for Target
If you tried shopping at Target or Target.com on September 13 you understand what I mean when I say, Missoni's launch was INSANE! As quickly as those red shirts could stock the shelves, shoppers from across the globe swiped up every last zig-zag print they could find. As a result, stores sold out of Missoni merchandise, and Target.com crashed. After the first day frenzy, most items could be found on eBay at a higher price. But I held onto mine: 2 sweater coats, 2 picture frames.
See more at the TRES CHIC blog about Missoni for Target HERE.
SequinsMy fav trend of 2011 has to be the glittery, sparkly sequins seen on EVERYTHING! From heels and handbags, to nail lacquer and leggins! This look added glitz and glam that the first year of the new decade so desperately needed.
It's been a depressing few years economic-wise, so why not jazz up our lives with fun fashion!?!
Here's hoping 2012 is a fabulous and chic year!
