TVB Ends War With HKRIA, Singers From HKRIA Allowed to Appear in TVB Shows Again
After nearly a year of "cold war" between TVB and HKRIA (Universal, Warner, Sony Music, and EMI), these companies finally reached a deal and have reconciled.
These companies are involved in a royalty fee dispute last year. HKRIA increased the fee from 5 million to 15 million, which TVB felt was unreasonable and refused to pay. The dispute affected singers from HKRIA like Eason Chan, Kay Tse, and Hacken Lee. They could not appear in TVB shows and promote their music in TVB's music programs such as "Jade Solid Gold."
Recently TVB's Stephen Chan is said flew to the US to negotiate with the four record labels and finally resolved the incident. Yesterday TVB's Ho Lai Chun confirmed they have agreed on mutual terms: "TVB has paid the fee for 2009 and 2010 and will discuss the fee for 2011 soon." He did not disclose the actual number and only said they have reached a compromise.
Performances and interviews of singers from HKRIA are now able to broadcast on TVB. Viewers and fans can finally watch their favorite singers in TVB programs again.
Although TVB has announced the news, but high executives from HKRIA have yet responded. HKRIA's CEO expressed further announcement to be announced soon.
