I Can't Wait (the 2011 edition)

2010 is already finished and done with and it is time to look ahead to see what wonders await us. Or rather, for what wonders are we willing to wait. Thanks to the all mighty Internet I compiled a list of 94 films to be released (in principle) in 2011 that I intend to see sooner or later. Out of those 94 films, I have chosen the 20 I am anticipating the most. And here they are:

20. Moonrise Kingdom

Because of: Wes Anderson, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman.

In Spite of: A likely 2012 release (that is why it's last), Frances McDormand and Edward Norton.

19. Jane Eyre

Because of: The Brontë surname, Michael Fassbender, Judi Dench, Sally Hawkins and the trailer.

In Spite of: Potential dullness?

18. My Week With Marilyn

Because of: Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Eddie Redmayne and the Royal Hollywood story.
In Spite of: Potential "biopicness"?

17. The Help

Because of: Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Olive Penderghast, Allison Janney and Emma's pocketful of sunshine.
In Spite of: Smells like The Secret Life of Bees.

16. Trespass

Because of: NICOLE KIDMAN, the Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Bad Lieutenant or The Weather Man, Nicole Kidman, Cam Gigandet's pecs and Nicole Kidman.
In Spite of: Joel Schumacher, the Nicolas Cage of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Season of the Witch or Ghost Rider.

15. X-Men First Class

Because of: Eeyore, Tigger, Piglet, Winnie, Owl, Rabbit.

13. We Need to Talk About Kevin

Because of: Tilda Swinton, the premise.
In Spite of: I know very little about the film so I can't think of anything.

12. Friends With Benefits

Because of: Mila Kunis, Will Gluck, Justin Timberlake's pecs, Patricia Clarkson, Emma Stone, the trailer.
In Spite of: The most likely cheesy and conventional ending.

11. Bad Teacher

Because of: Cameron Diaz, the trailer, the hope of Justin Timberlake's pecs, Molly Shannon!, Lucy Punch.
In Spite of: Less likely to have a conventional ending but still plausible.

10. Immortals

Because of: Tarsem Singh, the visual side of his films, Greek Mythology, Mickey Rourke, Stephen Dorff, the abundance of pecs.
In Spite of: Freida Pinto (who nevertheless is choosing very interesting directors).

9. A Dangerous Method

Because of: Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender, Vigo Mortensen, Vincent Cassel, psychoanalysis and I would love to say Cronenberg but I'm still a virgin in his films.
In Spite of: Cronenberg might be too tough for me?

8. Hanna

Because of: Joe Wright, Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett, Olivia Williams, Eric Bana.
In Spite of: Was Joe Wright a two-tricks pony?

7. Shame

Because of: Steve McQueen, Michael Fassbender, Hunger, Carey Mulligan.
In Spite of: Totally unrelated to the film but I don't like Carey off-screen.

6. One Day

Because of: Anne Hathaway, Lone Scherfig, Jim Sturgess, Patricia Clarkson, the premise, that wonderful poster.
In Spite of: Will it deliver?

5. Contagion

Because of: Soderbergh, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow.
In Spite of: Nothing.

4. The Tree of Life

Because of: Malick's grandeur, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain (I have never seen her in a film and I love her already), dinosaurs.
In Spite of: Malick's grandeur is sometimes too grand for me.

3. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Because of: Fincher, Rooney Mara, Fincher's perfectionism, Daniel Craig, Fincher's coolness.
In Spite of: Remake, seemingly-boring novel?

2. Melancholia

Because of: LARS, Kirsten Dunst, VON, Charlotte Gainsbourg, TRIER, Alexander Skarsgard, Von Trier's madness, the premise.
In Spite of: Nothing.

1. La Piel que Habito

Because of: Pedro Almodóvar, Elena Anaya, Pedro Almodóvar, Marisa Paredes, Pedro Almodóvar, Antonio Banderas working with Pedro Almodóvar.
In Spite of: Horror films scare me.

The Noah Castle Film Awards (Part II: Special Awards Part II)

The second part of the Special Awards are already on the main page. And a part of the anatomy of a British actress has won an award... Nope, not the boobs, sorry. But speaking of boobs and other arousing things, here we have the second part of the candidates for the Sex-On-A-Stick award!

Aaron Eckhart is a Filf (Milf sounds better) in Rabbit Hole. Well, he no longer has a son, so strictly speaking (not really) that disqualifies him as a father so he's just hot. Period. Very, very sexy indeed. There's something about his face that conveys safety and warmth...

Armie Hammer is the gift that keeps on giving. 1) He has a beautiful muscular body. 2) He has a really beautiful face. 3) He has a voice that melts underwear away. 4) In The Social Network there's two of them!!

Mila Kunis plays Lily in Black Swan. Mila Kunis is insanely hot from an objective point of view. I mean, only seeing her in pictures you can see she has a great body and a very sensual face. But Lily's attitude is pure sex. Everything she does is incredibly enticing. From dancing like a pro (a professional ballerina, I mean) to lusciously eating a hamburger all she does is sex, sex, sex.

Stephen Dorff's daughter in Somewhere is alive so he is officially a Filf! Stephen Dorff is not exactly very famous but she conveys that in the film perfectly. And fame is very exciting! Plus, he has a great body (thank you Sofia for all the shower scenes) and that scruffy sexy look...

Ok, so this is slightly illegal. Josh Hutcherson was not yet eighteen when he worked in The Kids Are All Right. Even worse, he plays a fifteen-year-old. But what can we do if he plays a hot fifteen-year-old? Well, admire him from a distance lest we should star in a new production of Lolita called Lolito...

Colin Farrell's character in The Way Back must smell pretty badly. But he is very sexy, especially when his hair is a little longer... I thought that, next to Saoirse's character, his was the most interesting. So interesting that he could do a spin-off in which he finds that he has to have sex with a lot of men in order to be free or whatever the hell he was doing during the film!

Love and Other Drugs was quite bland. But it had vast amounts of sex and nudity. And if that nudity is courtesy of Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal I can only say thank you. Thank you to whoever wrote that mess. You should have an Oscar! (not really)

And this is the end for the 2010 sexy people... In a few days I will announce the winner. There are more awards to come (acting and the BIG ones) and those will have winners too but the Special Awards on the main page will remain as they are... No winners and losers I mean, sometimes it's hard to pick a winner when only one film competes!

 ...dresses are always there! Sidenote: I am so not complaining about the awards because for the most part (Glee over Modern Family, seriously?) they were very much fair and awesome. And now let's talk dresses... Best ones, specifically.

Both Honorable Mentions wore green and both were winners (spiritually, at least). I still haven't seen Black Swan (even though earlier today I cried hearing an interview with Aronofsky) so I can't say about Mila but Elisabeth was robbed. Her work in Mad Men's fourth season has been her best so far. And her previous work was already perfect! I'm a little glad for Katey Sagal but only because Ed O'Neill was happy for her...

Julianne Moore was so cool in this hot pink. And she was so happy when Annette won... Those two should be lesbians in real life and adopt another couple of should-be lesbians (Amanda Seyfried and Ellen Page) [Theory adapted from Deivith's twisted mind]

#9 Angelina Jolie

No offense to Mila and Elisabeth but this is wearing green. She was so beautiful and so Goddess-like. I love how she spent the gala cuddling with Brad and applying lip-gloss. It's like she has taken a page from the Kate Winslet book and she wants to convince us that she is NORMAL and that she has done her own make-up.

SHE WAS ROBBED. She was. God knows I love Lynch's work but Gloria is beyond goodness. And on top of it she makes it look effortless. The episode where she learnt to bike was pure gold "What if someone tries to grab me?". O woe, I hope she gets the Emmy in August... Anyway, the dress fitted her like a glove in all her "volumptuosity" and the color was so bold and flattering...

Not only were they incredibly beautiful but also matched each other! If in one season on Glee they have gone from backup dancers to fan-favorites these two girls will win Oscars in about five years. That, or worldwide domination... And they are so slender...

#5 Olivia Wilde

I don't like Olivia Wilde much (even though she was very nice in Tron and she played a lesbian in O.C. [I've just realized that excepting Sofía every woman up to now has played a lesbian or a bisexual; am I sensing a theme?]) but this dress definitely makes my esteem for her grow. I love it when not-so-famous people really commit to a dress. It's like they're saying: "I might be a boring character in boring House but look at my dress, I could be a star" and I like that, yes, I do...

#4 Scarlett Johansson

I really don't like Scarlett Johansson but when she appeared on the red carpet last night both my boyfriend and I went "OHMYGODSHELOOKSSOGOOD!!" And she did. She has lost some weight and it is good because now her boobs are smaller than her head, something quite tasteful if you like to display them like on a window-shop (only exception to the rule: Christina Hendricks, of course). It may be related to the divorce but if it was Ryan who left her he must be regretting it now (specially if the rumors are true and he is in fact doing the nasty with Sandra Bullock who since yesterday is to be known as Latoya Jackson's lost twin). And the hair... So dramatic. I love it!

3. Emma Stone in Calvin Klein.

Blonde hair looks so good on her (don't misinterpret me, she is freakingly beautiful as a redhead), it makes her look older and more sophisticated... And that dress. So simple and yet so effective. It looks seamless like the dress Lisa Marie Presley wears in Mars Attacks! This girl (Emma, not Lisa Marie) sure does know how to become a star. Question: Wouldn't it be great if she got the fifth spot in the Oscars? Answer: Yes, it would be!

#2 Anne Hathaway

It would also be extremely cool that the fifth spot went to Anne. Ok, the film is not very good but she is so devilishly charming. She is the new Amy Adams only with extra charisma. And I don't think she has ever been as chic and beautiful as she was last night. This 70s vibe totally suits her, in my opinion better than the princess thing though she is lovely as well in that mode (remember the Oscars '08: "Frank Langella was sitting right next to me"). I can't wait to see her host the Oscars. And I've just read that she's going to be in Glee. Which is awesome because she sings soooo well and that's why she should sing at the Oscars because she does it well... Duh!

January Jones won't go for second best, baby. She won't settle with being the most mesmerizingly beautiful woman (make that human being [make that being in general]) on the Universe and in every possible alternate universe. No. She has to be a killer dresser as well. Not to mention the creator of one of the most complex and accomplished characters ever in the history of the audiovisual. But going back to the clothes... She is such an amazing dresser, always thinking outside the box. I remember being completely obsessed with her outfit at the Met Gala (the Superheroes one)... And this red Versace (she is the new face) is perfection. It is so risky and yet she wears it with more ease than what I can have when wearing my pajamas. It's like she was born to wear this dress, and let's face it, the dress is amazingly beautiful in all its detail but without January's attitude it would not be the same. And what about her face? I could be looking at it forever... It is art!

The Noah Castle Film Awards (Wait, Hold On...)

Truth be told, I had thought to publish my awards for the best in the cinematic year towards the end of December. I already knew there would be tons of films I still would not have seen but I thought I could correct the awards somewhere in February, then again somewhere in April and most likely somewhere in September (could everyone take a moment to admire the Spanish release system? I do not understand it either.). Anyway, I have decided to skip this first December step because let's face it, I have a thousand movies left to see. And what could be more fun than anticipation?? (Maybe watching the films already but sadly that is not an option)

So here it is the list of 2010 films I haven't seen yet. It's obviously incomplete (but I'm probably never seeing The Bounty Hunter anyway) and it will most likely lack films I want to see and did not remember... Well, imperfection is so much easier to achieve than perfection. Actually, most of these films are the ones that have awards traction...

- 127 Hours: This movie opens the 25th of February, the Friday before the Oscars. It seems that now it's only about James Franco and its possibilities for picture are dying but still it looks like I will enjoy this a lot more than Slumdog Millionaire.

- Animal Kingdom: It opens the 14th of January.

- Another Year: I hope Lesley Manville doesn't get a Best Actress nomination because lately it seems that Nicole Kidman is the weakest link...

- Barney's Version: An exception to the awards traction rule but Rosamund Pike is so lovely...

- Black Swan: The film I most anticipate. Aronofsky! Portman! Ballerinas! I'm dying to see it!!! It opens in Spain the 28th of January, right in the middle of exams period, and yes, seeing it is more important than passing any stupid subject...

- Blue Valentine: This film still has not an opening date in Spain. We were very close to see it in a festival in Gijón but fate wouldn't have it.

- Conviction: This looks so terrible but Sam Rockwell is worth it (hopefully).

- The Fighter: Another important player without release date. Amy Adams playing against type!!

- Get Low: The premise in the trailer looks cool but the development not so much...

- How do you Know: Not very much relevance in awards either but... there was a time in which I loved Reese Witherspoon.

- The Killer Inside Me: It opens the 21st of January

- The King's Speech: I could have already seen this but since I live in Madrid I'm used to see basically everything in Original Version and I am spending the holidays in Zaragoza, my hometown which is considerably smaller and has about two films in Original Version at the same time. Sadly The King's Speech is not among those two, so I'm going to wait until I'm back in Madrid to see it.

- Love and Other Drugs: Anne Hathaway and a very much naked Jake Gyllenhaal? Yes, please! It opens the 14th of January.

- Made in Dagenham: Again, Rosamund Pike is lovely.

- Monsters: It looks like this year's District 9 (let's hope they don't share the disappointing second half...).

-Morning Glory: Is there anyone lovelier than Rachel McAdams? I recently rewatched Mean Girls and she was robbed a nomination...

- Rabbit Hole: The second film I most anticipate. JCM! Kidman!! Grief! Sandra Oh! When the film was announced I fantasised that Sandra Oh would play Kidman's sister and I even read the play imagining her in the role. Now I know that is not her character but wouldn't it have been great? It still has not a release date in Spain.

- Red: Three words. Mary Louise Parker. She could appear only in painting and I would still line up to see the film.

- Somewhere: It doesn't have a Spanish release date.

- Tangled: Reviews have been generally good and The Princess and the Frog was actually great. Now that Pixar smells like failure (Cars 2, seriously?) maybe Disney will take the room on the top...

- The Tourist: If it wasn't for the Globes nods I would stay away from this but I like to have a full picture in my head. It opens the day after tomorrow. Yay I guess...

- True Grit: The Coen's western looks very good. It opens the 11th of February. Plus Hailee Steinfeld looks like a lock more and more...

- The Way Back: It opens the 5th of January. I want to see Saoirse Ronan so badly! In fact the whole cast is great but the director... maybe not so much.

Anyway, I hope that towards the end of February I'll have a better picture to bestow some awards before March begins... After all March in Spain is like January in the States; if anything worthwile opens it can be considered a miracle.
